The Harimau Muda ended Malaysia 20-year gold drought in the SEA Games men’s football competition

On the nite of 17/12/09 the harimau muda ended Malaysia 20-year gold drought in the SEA Games men’s football competition.

The national team’s last success at the biennial event came when they beat Singapore 1-0 in the KL SEA Games in 1989.

It all thank to an own goal by Vietnam player (Mai Xuan Hop) in the 85th minute.

National coach K. Rajagopal was full of praise for his warriors, who created history.
“We achieved an historic feat in Vientiane,” said a jubilant Rajagopal.

Winning the SEA Games gold medal alone is not enough!
We need to ensure that the national football team remain competitive and able to challenge for more honours.

PM say hoped the victory was not just a seasonal success or for a short-term only but represented a continuous path towards bigger achievements.
